I have a friend who I call my "yard coach". I moved into a house with an established garden too, and knew nothing about gardening, and was afraid I was going to kill it. So she has been teaching me and encouraging me to do new things out there too. I like playing in dirt.
I think it's something we need Linda, playing in dirt! The smell of the dirt, whatever's in there, is a tonic. I love that you have a yard coach- there's so many retired people around here no doubt there's somebody we could invite over for tea and cake and garden advice. I'll have to just lurk around the garden center...
Thank you for writing such a lovely piece . Snowdrops are a favourite of mine, brightening these dull February days and reminding us that spring is not long now. I think you're touring to Wales in the spring so you should see plenty of daffodils welcoming you there ( a national emblem of Wales)
Here at the Virginia dewdrop inn, the narcissus and daffodils are four inches up and today we are expecting 9 inches of snow. Love the quote from dear George.
Can't wait for the daffodils! Hope the snow goes easy on you Craig. Meanwhile, maybe you'll like this garden design by Neil Innes' wife Yvonne - it was a garden for George the gardener at the Chelsea Flower Show, I stumbled on when I was looking for a quote about George the gardener: https://neilinnes.media/a-garden-for-george/
are we allowed to ask questions? just did, hah. if you went to the nearest venue to see a live band, how far would that be? asking for a friend, i'll hang up and listen, xxxcm
Questions are always welcome Clarke! Norwich, about a half hour away, would be the closest place to see a band though the pub across the street has music sometimes, the one night we took a chance and went in it was pretty bad (guy on acoustic way too loud playing hits of the day and classic rock covers) Cambridge gets most touring acts and that's about an hour from here. Looking forward to seeing Chuck Prophet later this month in one of those...I read a new venue just opened in Norwich, there are bands artists who do stop here. I'm really wanting to see somebody good play, especially after the Led Zep film, what a band in those early days.
bcuz of you, i am psyched to see the Zep doc. keep in mind that there are very few shows of interest where i am, either, which is awfully sad, considering where i am! i DID make it out to see an AWEsome MJ Lenderman show the other night! very great, but also that's where i got the flu. guess it was worth it. let u know when it ends, ha ha.
just saw chuck several weeks ago - very great! have fun, xxxcm
Going through my mother's extensive writings, I found a proud claim that "I had eight gardens, four of which I started myself." Sadly, her final garden fell into disrepair a long time ago: the "gardener" friend who tended to it for years got on in those years himself, and we had to essentially abandon it. No more apple jelly from the apple tree out back, no more summer dinners outdoors on those endless days pretending that Yorkshire is Provence, but to the best of my knowledge, no buried bodies to be sensitive about either. A reminder to me to water the indoor plants. Love these poscards you write (well, letters really, aren't they?). Take care...
Hi! WE are getting some snow here in Northeastern NJ. Overnight, Saturday into Sunday we had 3-4". When I woke up and looked outside, someone had, probably with a snowblower cleared most of my sidewalk! I'm on a corner and have probably 150 or so feet of sidewalk. Very nice gesture from my next door neighbor, I think. I only had to do my driveway, the sidewalk from there to the front porch! Then clean off my 2 cars. The MINI and my late Mom's Malibu Maxx. We are supposed to get more tomorrow. Probably only a little bit this time. Did you hear about Sal M.?
Good to see you getting settled in there Amy . Here is a link to take you to Georges garden . Strange History X is worth a bookmark . Sott Cardinal is a pretty amazing gentleman . Cheers !
I love that Bob, thank you. Our one topiary, a bunny, is full of blight and we tried to burn it on Halloween , expecting it to go up in glorious flames but instead it's now a singe-d unhappy bunny. Take care and thanks again!

I've had a rough couple weeks, and this post was like a balm. Thank you, Amy. I love reading your missives from across the pond. xo
Thank you so much, I'm glad I could help!

Your mother sounds like a remarkable woman Tony!

Yes, I am having a hard time accepting that Sal is not with us anymore, it's just so terribly sad. Take it easy in the snow Brian!
