Wonderful writing, Amy. My god but you have a lot of energy and stamina for getting stuff done. Inspired living for sure. I hope when you get that bookshop/pub you’ll build a little sound stage for live music. Thanks for the holiday cheer.
Thank you Angel! I would so love to have that small performing space, like at Spotty Dog where the shelves were on wheels and could be moved aside to put on gigs. I need to work towards the bookstore/bar idea before I reach 70 or so, when I'll possibly just want to read (and write) books, print fabric, record the occasional song and stroll by the sea. Happy New Year to you and Johnathan! xx
Funny, because I just finished a book that featured a sinister cult based in Aylmerton and and a couple of suspicious drownings at the beach at Cromer. I'm glad you're beginning to find your feet in your new digs. (PS - this is Michael Bowen IRL - this was a pseudonym I adopted when I posted on political websites for many years. Catskill got about 1-2 inches of snow a couple of days ago, so there was a nice White Christmas here in the Hudson River Delta.)
A great read as always, I reckon you'll be a local in about 40 years. I've lived in N Devon for 43 now and am still viewed with suspicion by some, but then, I am Cornish! Merry Christmas to you both and a Happy New Year.
Ha! Seems every time I read your posts, I'm reminded of having made the same mistakes. I remember leaving stuff behind at B&B's (real B&B's not Air Bnb) and sending mailers and wondering if it would work. Also forgetting to turn in the keys and mailing them from the next village. And now you made me laugh because I constantly seem to find myself in the landlord's apartment. Maybe it's an Aquarius thing. Like you, I try to fit in over there even for my usual 4-5 week tours. But at least I'm off to the next town soon after mispronouncing Happisburgh while you have to face the music. Speaking of music, thanks for the cheers and catharsis. And good luck melting in. With your charm, you can't lose.
Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one wandering into the landlord's apartment Don. And thanks for the festive card - Happy Holidays to you and Lori and the pups.
My mom was English ( from Banbury) and we’d have a Lower East Side English Christmas dinner every year and wear crowns and have crackers… A leg of lamb, roasted potatoes with carrots and turnips, Yorkshire pudding, and an amazing Trifle for dessert. Glorious!
That sounds wonderful Jacob! Nobody does roasted vegetables like the Brits (is it that duck and goose fat are much easier to find here?) Hope you're having a nice holiday season!
You look radiant, Amy. So glad you’re finding your feet in the new digs and sharing with us. Can’t wait to see you when you tour next in the U.S. Or maybe when I visit my grand daughter in London.
I love the song! And I’m so glad to read that you’re getting settled in. You’ve gone through so much!!! I’m glad that you’re able to catch your breath a bit now.
This piece you've written is wonderful. I love hearing about how everything came about before you moved, how you filled in all the blanks, your families and daily life in the UK. You made me smile, laugh, and engaged my heart with your writing, and your holiday song. Thank you, it feels so good to know you through your sharing. Looking forward AF to 2025 with you and yours. Hugs across the water.
That's so kind, thank you Angie. I realize sometimes I skim over stuff, maybe not wanting to reveal too much even as I lay out a load of details. So appreciate you reading and yes, Happy 2025!

Oh wow Michael, I'd like to know the name of the book. Aylmerton is just nearby and could definitely harbor a cult! Glad to know your alias btw.
It's called The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith, aka J.K. Rowling (yeah, I know, but I bought it before I knew she was an asshole).

Picturing my tombstone - "Here Lies A Blow-In" Thanks for reading Stribs, and Happy New Year!
