Oh geez. Busted! Thanks Cliff. I agree about Amy's songs. The Summer of My Wasted Youth, 20 Questions. And I always thought Cynically Yours should be covered by Nick Lowe. But right now I'm here for the prose, which is fantastic.
That's the way to put back into print the circumstance and times of your quiet record that is sadly out of print. I look forward to the book, which will no doubt have more hints of your fondness for ice cream, tv, hair conditioner, and non-existent retirement funds.
Great little taste. Love the photos. Reminds me of how (too) happy I looked as a messenger in mid-town Manhattan. Always been curious about Nashville. Did you happen to know a guitarist named Tom Bukovac down there? A friend of mine turned me on to his youtube channel.
Isn't it funny how those side hustles could be a blast? You know, my pal Bob (yes, the Bob) mentioned this Tom guy to me as well, I can't remember meeting him there but seems like I need to check out his channel!

I play “Cynically Yours,” a song I’d started writing as a temp at CBS Legal Department, finished as a temp at Vanderbilt Medical Center and recorded for my most recent album The Sugar Tree. Beneath the big yellow Krystal sign shining down from next door, I play my song and John Prine laughs and cheers. “That’s a good song right there,” he says. I feel like he’s blessed me.==
He did. Here in Minneapolis we have the "14th Annual Big Fat Love: Celebrating John Prine’s Birthday" FRI, OCT 13, 2023 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. I hope someone shoehorns "Cynically Yours" into the lineup.
And those cone pix wudda made great music promo shots!
Wow, I was just talking to Lori about the infamous Bob and how much he seemed like me. Loving and hating Lou Reed at the same time for instance. I thought of Bob because I was talking about the time I met Lester Bangs. I could just see Lester, me and Bob in the same room arguing (or maybe agreeing) about music. I'm sure we all were in the same room many times back in NY.
Anoonted by John Prine! What could be better?
I love the way you write. And those photos are great!
Thank you Richard!
You wrote Are You Happy Now and Fishing, both of which should be taught in songwriting classes, along with a bunch of Amy's songs as well.

Not to mention the Civil War cycle.....

I love this - thanks Paul. Will be a good opportunity to make those discs available in some form that isn't just digital.

Yay! I cannot wait for the book! :)
Thanks Paul! I haven't shared any of it before and this seemed like a pretty sweet bit to break the ice.
Now I want a Dairy Dip! You look so happy, love it!!! Thank you for writing! Dig the ending....
