Brilliant! Love the image you’ve conjured with “Orthodox women float by in colored house dresses, like big jellyfish.” I didn’t realize how swimming has been a constant pursuit for you. Smart for a singer and for your health.

Thanks Angel! I love walking but there's so much to look at whereas in the water, you just zone out and it's pure sensation, and then there's the breathing. I do hope I can keep it up now that I've found it again.

That freedom from thoughts that lap swimming can conjure when you hit your zone! What a blessing even in a crowded lane to spend some time feeling weightless.

That's it - i start counting how many times I've gone back and forth and then realize I've lost track of everything, what a relief Suzanne.

Can’t be any slower than me, GF. I huff and puff all summer to get one full length in. Mostly I just pretend I’m a porpoise and swirl around in rotations. But working on improving my crawl has been a multi-year project. I just don’t believe I could swim in lanes with anyone else!

I've never gotten the hang of the crawl! The breathing of basic breaststroke is so relaxing but I long to slice through the water doing the crawl - or not, I may never achieve it. Happy porpoising Eline!

Brilliant. Thank you for such a wonderful piece of memory writing. You have inspired me to connect the dots in my own swimming experiences. I put myself in one of those grey lady filled lanes last year and was overwhelmed at my body's grateful recognition that this return to a pool was where I was supposed to be. ♥️

Same here! That they make it so affordable and easy here has me convinced I'm going to keep it going, hope you can too!

Swimming is bliss. But "you're dirty!"...hahaha! And proud of it I'm sure.

Hi Amy,

I remember seeing you at Maxwell's very ready to be a Mom! Still with Last Roundup I believe. I can't believe it was that long ago!

Wow! Is she still in NYC? Since covid I'm not in New York as much as I was. I haven't heard much from Lisa B. in awhile. Next show I'll be at is Robyn Hitchcock at Outpost in the Burbs in late October. Indoor show. He's another one I used to see at Maxwell's. Hope you are loving England.
