Happy for you that you got your products back and gained a bit of trust in the locals. They’re all gonna fall in love with you, even the old geezers in line at the PO. Heck, you’ll be charming the pants off the Brits in no time. They’ll be begging ’ to hear your origin story. Sitting pretty in your gorgeous home. 😍
Let me just say that your writing is *so good*. Songs best of course -- but also autobiography and diaries. Keep it coming! Best wishes for your inter-continent adventure!
Amy, thank you for sharing. I feel this kind of loneliness, and the growing pains of settling in. I move a lot, though I've never moved that far away. Wishing you warmth and kindness inside your beautiful self. May your Christmas and New Years be full of smiles, peace and love.
Ha! The Brits! I’m so fond of them! I lived there in the early eighties. After many months I realized I was finally one of the gang when they would brutally insult me. That means they like you! I loved it there. Sort of. What a great culture. It seemed Every other person I knew was either in community theatre, or a band or a Community orchestra. I loved how they were so proud of Shakespeare and Elgar, and their fantastic musicians and writers. Their wonderful personalities and humor. Their Great style. I envy you your new adventure! Best of luck!
Yes! It’s just a matter of time before you are “absolutely useless”! What a great day that will be! Feather in your cap! Regardless, best wishes and happy holidays! Thanks for sharing your adventures! Wishing a happy healthy and creative 2025 to you and yours!
My old company got acquired by a UK company, which resulted in me going to the UK for work every other month. The first time our new parent company flew us all over for a party, a British colleague I was juat getting to know who would become my "brother from another mother," plopped himself down beside me and my fellow Yanks.
"Mind if I sit with you?"
"Not at all!"
Then he looked at me and said, "You people are so aggressively frinedly!"
You definitely belong here in Norfolk now and your home looks so beautiful. So lovely to catch up with you and Eric in Cambridge too. I absolutely love reading your posts. You should definitely write a book. X
So nice to see you and Bernie, Lisa - I'm sorry we lost you in the crowd! I for sure will love to write my "An American in Norfolk" book - the Nashville one's written, the French one just about - I better start cranking them out quicker! Take care and happy Christmas x
Thanks for your creative risks and the joy you've imparted, at least since the beloved "Playing the Fool." I loved it when you said "even trash speaks to me." But I'm not sure this is totally accurate:

The Brits are so artful at their takedowns, I will welcome them when they come! And I know they will! Thanks Julia.

"Bring it on" as the Americans say! Thanks Julia and same to you!
Funny you should mention sunscreen as I just found out mine (Aveeno) is discontinued. And "sunny spells" are in the forecast!
Enjoy a warm and sunny Northern Cal. Christmas Don!
Love your stories. I can see all the details and feel the joy or pain!
Happy your products arrived! Yay!
Thanks Sharon - I kept downplaying it in my mind "only stuff, it doesn't matter" But it renewed my faith!

Catskill Courage.
Whatever it takes. I'm glad you started writing, way back when.
Thanks for all your encouragement over the years Hal!

J: Do you show your emotions easily?
A: Only in song.
