It’s exhausting in every way. Probably why we’ve stayed put for 30 years. But our day is coming. And every day prior, like now, I should be making progress toward de-possessionig and junking all the crap that got stored instead of thrown away. I’ll start tomorrow. Maybe.

Yes, only do it if you want! No matter how much you get rid of, there's still too much Eline!

You need a medal for putting yourself through that. Hope the English climate doesn’t make you pine for hot summers.

I am so not enjoying hot summers any more. I connect it to having had skin cancer surgery a few times making me feel like heat ie sun is bad. The mild climate in England suits me, I can actually sit on a beach again!

Yet another reminder that I really need to start doing something I've been threatening to do for the last 10 years: throw one thing out that I'm holding onto for god knows what reason per week. It's trash night, but dammit, it's my birthday. I'll start next week!

You got that sense of the bittersweet so perfectly. I think about moving from my beloved Bronx house of 20 years often—it's up stairs from the street, so not "age in place" (I just turned 61, so it's on my mind). And that thought makes me sad and melancholy just in theory. Safe travels to your new chapter.

As someone in the middle of moving, I empathize and share many of your emotions. Then again, I am not moving country, I am not leaving a house nor a place I feel particularly attached to emotionally and I have no tape vaults and only 6 guitars. But still, is this a pain! The fact that you found time to write about it? That's more than I feel I can do in depth right now. Lovely words, they resonate because I live in and know the area. Safe travels.

Moving makes me think go the prospects of changing everything and leaving the memories created at a home, saying goodbye to friends. You and Eric have been a great example of how to do it. Following this journey has been inspirational for me. Good travels.

moving sucks no matter what age one is. it just sucks a lot more, when one is older. then, one day, when one is finally settled in, things are right, again. even though, you still have the settling in part left to go, i hope the new place brings you much joy and contentment. cheers, xxxcm

The picture at the end says it all.

Must be some place to go skating in Blighty, no?

I imagine some holiday skating sometime - not having skates means I'll just have to rent those unsightly ones! Thanks Don.

Good luck with your move! And yeah, I had ice skates laying around forever, with the thought that one day I might take to the ice again. They hung in my closet, then in storage for many years, same reasoning. Finally I just let them go.. Curious how it will all go for you in the UK, I might end up in EU myself again, maybe our paths will cross?

Good luck with the move, Amy. We’ve been in our house over forty years. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to pack up and move. We just had some guys come out and trim our trees. I’m exhausted from watching them!
