Berwick Upon Tweed! I know it from the Shipping Forecast. And I once worked with someone who ended up quitting because they met the love of their life and were moving to Lindisfarne and I was the only person at the company who had ever heard of it - which was a good thing because there were a lot of people who were sure he was making it all up (but these were also people who insisted they couldn't go to a company meeting in Puerto Rico bc they didn't have passports). I love Eric's advice and it's the kind of thing that i'll keep in my head even though I'll never be arguing with fascist soundmen, it has wide usage i believe. i love these, i'm sorry I didn't get to see you on the us tour but we'll cross paths again someday. xo

It's a great idea to use the hotels as a jumping off point! Fun to read. Thank you. Loved the downhill walk video.

Thanks Anne - I'm so glad you appreciated that cause I found it hard to get started writing about this last stretch and focusing on the rooms gave me something small to work with! Isn't that video hilarious! Those guys are born to do silly walks.

Thanks for taking us along on your latest tour. Slogging through Scotland and northern England playing gigs after those US election results has got to be about as Bleak November as it gets, but you manage to sound upbeat. It’s good to be busy doing what you love. This is one of my pipe dreams, but I recently watched the Road Diary documentary about Springsteen getting the band together again and wondered what it would be like if you backed the E Street Band for one night at the Hollywood Bowl, doing your own songs of course (some rehearsals will be required). I’d fly to LA for that.

Funny, Wes - I like to think I have been backed by Bruce's band almost - have played with Gary Talent in Nashville and Max Weinberg (when I did the Conan O'Brien show, he even worked up a beautiful vocal backup for Cynically Yours) so hey, a cool idea but maybe a smaller venue!

Trump's victory is keeping millions of us awake I expect. Next year we'll be joined by millions and millions more. These will be the ones who voted for him so they could buy cheaper eggs. Sorry, but it's hard to ignore your opening. I've read that life on the road for musicians can be a real nightmare. I suppose there are exceptions.

True words Mike. And didn't mean to make my touring seem like a nightmare - I've actually stopped suffering in bad hotels, it's just not worth it to me, for some reason I picked a bad one for that first night, Manchester is expensive but I wouldn't make that mistake again!

Gordon's Trattoria! Back in 2000 I brought a restless bunch of high school thespians to Fringe, where they spent far more time trying to sneak out to clubs and other students' dorm rooms than they did rehearsing, but we somehow got through 3 shows in 4 days without any major incidents (at least as far as their parents ever found out). On the last day of the trip, I took them to Gordon's for a lovely Italian meal and even let them order a glass of wine, pretending it was the first time they'd had alcohol while we were there. We chose the place because our street preview gigs were set up across the way, and the kids were all amused by the word Trattoria. :-)
