I don’t care how long it takes to say it. I like the word “galoshes”. It’s a sloppy word of wetness and idiocy, and it makes me happy. I’m not saying you should use either. You’ve got enough problems and I refuse to add to them!!!

I had totally forgotten that word! But I think of galoshes as having buckles that flap around - but for sure it works.

I’ve bought a pair of green wellies and a Babour jacket a million years ago when I was snowed in at Burton on Trent on a business trip. Turned out they were both acceptable for with a suit. - the wellies are sitting in my place on Lake Superior still fully functional despite one having the top 2 inches or so chewed by an exe’s dog. Not sure which taxi/train/airport/hotel/bar/pub in which I left the jacket

Good writing as always Amy!

Btw, a national insurance card is automatically issued with a residence permit here in Qatar, but then of course you are in Qatar….

I wonder where the jacket lives now Jim?

The bus pass arrived today! Take care and hopefully see you again before long-

It would be fun to find out. I’ve supplied traveling public with umbrellas, sport coats, jackets, an Ipod with a headphone amp & in ear monitor headphones, flashlights…. I’ll definitely be at one of your UK shows soon!

Please don't feel you have to apologize for writing about gardening! Although I dislike the phrase "when you reach a certain age" (which I always imagine is 53), at some point one comes to appreciate the balance between the Places of Striving and Expression and a Place of Refuge and Restoration. When my wife and I move overseas we'll be sure to look for a home with a garden.

Oh I love those places you've named Wes - thank you. I think 63 might be my "certain age"...I look back at 53 and it feels like I was really gearing up to launch myself at things (again) in a way I can't imagine now. But then that was twelve years ago and wow the world has certainly changed since then too. I hope you and your wife find your garden overseas!

I still have the Wellies I bought when I lived there. Tall and pale pink Hunters. It felt like a right of passage! I also bought a Barbour waxed coat. I fell right in with the English countryside persona. :) and yes, snowdrops.

Love your stories and can’t wait for your book!

Now I'm envying those pink Hunters Terri - the supermarket ones I picked up yesterday just won't cut it, they have to go back. I've always loved those waxed country living coats!

Been loving your posts too - hope I can make it back to Cleveland in the fall when I get this new book out. That town is a featured character in Girl To Country!

I love the way snowdrops appear like carpets in the UK. I gave some bulbs to my Mom to plant in Pittsburgh and we're now waiting to see what happens.

You can have my Natl Ins #. I got one while working there as a student in 1986. I had a little blue and red credit card stamped with the number that I kept in my wallet for awhile. I have no idea where it went but I'm sure the number is still good. Maybe. :-)

Thanks Erica! The good news is I GOT a nat'l insurance number, and yesterday I learned that I WILL receive my bus pass in the mail any day now. It feels like a victory. I wish you could find your insurance # and log on to see if they still have you in the system?

As always, it’s so nice to hear from you. I only recently “discovered” Chuck Prophet and look forward to him coming to my town someday. In the meantime I’m here in Zihua for another Guitarfest and reading of your life across the sea. (Across the pond is just not me)

Your search for the perfect gardening boots brings to mind the scene in Good Neighbors where the exhaustion from farming their suburban lot leads to Barbara, (or was it Tom?) to crying out “I can’t get my Wellies off!”

I’m not much into stretching; but did also take some early pandemic yoga sessions by the lighthouse out on a breezy lawn. The yoga instructor reminded us that there is no competitive yoga and was never one to tell any of us that we were doing it wrong. I always like to place the mat at my own 45° angle to more easily see the instructor. You do you.

Take care and be happy

You are okay with "sarnies" because you are a closet fan of early Tull. Both "Goin' Up the Pool" and "Thick as a Brick" include that UK slang with "--ies." How do you feel about "jam butties"?

Awesome photo of you in your Doc Marten's in the garden. ;)

Jam butties sound fine in the right kind of accent Scott! Thanks, that's the Docs last trip out there.

I hope you find new wellies soon, but you do look adorable in your Doc Marten's. Many, many, of us wish we could relocate. I don't know if that's possible today. I understand the need not to let others know you are from the US.

I have already loved your music, now I get to look forward to a book.

Thank you
