I love the chromatic climb on hell-oh sixty. The coolest chromatic climb since "too much of nothing". The production is wild and exciting on this record… Of course… And always the excellent songs! Brows… Bangs… Man, I've got enough forehead for three people…
The new album sounds great! I can't help wondering if you've ever heard the They Might Be Giants song "Bangs," from 2001, which is a characteristically quirky/charming paean to your hairstyle feature. "I'm only holding your hand/So I can look at your bangs," and so forth.
Thanks Jeremy! I only just learned of TMBG Bangs when I did a Q&A for a podcast about the band. I did a search after I wrote my song (I think the only way to write songs is to pretend no other songs exist but after it's better to know what's out there) I didn't see TMBG Bangs or maybe got hung up on a young guy's song that went "Girl how you like me now, I've got motherfucking bangs"!
The song is pretty obscure no doubt; I assumed you wouldn't have known of it ahead of time but might end up tickled by it after the fact. That other one I certainly haven't heard but I think I'll stick with TMBG. :)
I have very little to say about brows and bangs, but what really gets me is how much everyone in their twenties freaked out about turning 30 -- "The end of youth" and all that. (Do they still do that? Probably.) I just want to tell them it's nothing bad, that it's a beginning not an end and they'll be looking pretty good and firing on all cylinders, so what's so bad about that? (But will they listen?)
First things first. (They can hardly be otherwise....) What a cute photo! I do think, though, that you should draw on the kind of eyebrows Stringbean used have, every woman's dream look. Just sayin'.
I really like the new album! And lashes, hell I don’t know what’s up with mine, crazy old man lashes that have to be hacked back to keep them out of my contact lenses.
Thanks Jim. Eric and I were at the Portland Arms in Cambridge to see Robyn Hitchcock last night and I think that may be a spot I saw you in the UK, years back when we played there?
ps yes, unfair we can't direct where & how we want things to grow!
Yes, I remember that show - you both were excellent & Eric’s fans had Fred Eaglesmith Fredhead energy. I’m going to make one of your UK shows this fall, maybe Glasgow..
Steve I cannot understand how this works - so weird. To quote my own song from the new album (and one of the most platitudinous lines I've ever allowed into my lyrics but what the hell, it made sense: "Trust the mystery!")
I didn't realize eyebrows could go! I've got pretty thick ones and they are starting to want more real estate. Since entering my 60s, they have started to grow out and around the corners of my eyes, like a Fu Manchu mustache, if I didn't start plucking those pioneer hairs for the first time in my life! I miss the days when my various patches of body hair knew their place.
The brows are very “now;” don’t let them go! They make your wonderfully expressive face even more pixie-ish. Consider getting them professionally shaped? The record rawks, and when you’re touring nobody’s going to say: “That Amy! I liked her better when she had more eyebrows!”

That big brain Chuck! Thank you so much - and I love that about the production, I passed that on to Eric. Take care buddy.

No they won't listen Wes - and that's as it should be, right?
Oh how I laughed about the brows. I can relate. Looking forward to the Bangs video. Love you, Amy! Thank you for sharing, writing and your music!
Thank you Angie! I better get to work on that video!

Good old Stringbean - thanks Scott, will think about that!

Those nu brows of yours are a miracle. If I had to choose between getting my hair back, and having full eyebrows again, I’d choose the latter.

My husband refers to "facial gardening" Jim - strange what happens!
The aging process is no fun, but the alternave is worse…

Maybe the time for threading Eline, I remember doing that years ago , it was such a cool technique. Maybe that will help!
